55th Porsche Parade Along the Lincoln Highway

Plan now to have your community offer them a warm welcome as they travel the Lincoln Highway in Illinois!

The annual Porsche Parade is a weeklong gathering of people and Porsches from all over the world. It is held in a different location each year, this year St. Charles is the "big" Porsche Club event of the year: their annual national convention.

DeKalb County Garden Walk

The annual Garden Walk is sponsored by the Master Gardeners of the University of Illinois Extension as a fundraiser for the Extension's projects. Eight gardens are participating; all in the DeKalb-Sycamore area. There is also a Point of Interest, a public site which is a Master Gardener project. Tickets are for sale now at the University of Illinois Extension office.

6th Annual Garden Walk - A Little Garden Art

Dedication of Lincoln Marker

The dedication of a bronze narrative marker commemorating the speech given by Abraham Lincoln for the then-presidential candidate John Freemont will take place on the Lee County Courthouse Lawn. Oregon Trail Days Festival

DC3/C-47 "The Last Time" Fly-In
July 24 - 26, 2010 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Rock Falls/Whiteside County Airport

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the DC3/C-47, the Whiteside County Airport is hosting "The Last Time" FLy-In. The DC3/C-47 airplane played a major role in popularizing civilian air travel in the 1930's and was converted to military use during World War II. There are only 104 planes known to exist and many of the participants are WWII veterans. "The Last Time" is intended to bring as many planes and flight crews together as possible.

The general public will be given access to the planes for photographs and discussion with flight crews. There will be booths operated by local organizations with refreshments and food. Parking is available, but groups are encouraged to carpool.

Lincoln Highway Parade

Now is the time to become a part of the first ever Lincoln Highway Parade! All Lincoln Highway communities in and along the corridor are invited to represent your town, city or village with an entry in the parade! The theme is Through The Years, a twilight parade in downtown DeKalb following a route on the Lincoln Highway. The parade is a feature in a weekend celebration of Kishwaukee Fest, as classic style Drum Corp shows and the Drum Corps Festival of Champions return to DeKalb through FunME Events.

As a sponsor of this event the Lincoln Highway Coalition is happy to offer our community partners one unit entered free in the parade! So gather your elected officials, veteran and military units, boy scouts (it's their 100 year anniversary!), bands, dancers, special groups, local pageant winners, build a float and anything else that says "we are proud to be part of the Lincoln Highway" to enter in the parade!

"What We Wore: A Tour of Fashion History" Style Show

1800's life is demonstrated by blacksmiths, spinners, basket makers, quilters and carvers displaying their skills. Live Blue Grass and Folk music featuring local musicians. The Chaplin Creek Muzzle Loaders will set up camp and have demonstrations during the festivals and spear throwing demonstrations by the Illinois Atlatl Association.

A first this year is the Fiber Fair! Vendors will be offering a wide selection of supplies and finished objects. Attend workshops for drop spindle, needle felting, hand-painted skeins and roving along with demonstrations of spinning, weaving and more. Please bring cameras and your chairs.
