Native
American trails, a quest for new land and resources, and
railroads significantly impacted the founding and growth
of the Village of Frankfort. Frankfort is located approximately
35 miles southwest of Chicago in Will County on the highest
spot between Chicago and the Mississippi River.
Founded in 1855, Frankfort has progressed from a German
farm community into a high-quality rural community with
rich historic charm. This historical village is a favorite
destination of those seeking unique shopping, notable restaurants
or a relaxing walk down a main street of Civil War-era
buildings.
Much of the 1890's-era architecture throughout the Village
of Frankfort is blended with visitor and recreational amenities
including the Old Plank Road Trail (part of the Grand Illinois
Trail) and village greens that help contribute to the progressiveness
of this thriving community.
