Highway Coalition unveiled its first Interpretive Center
with interactive panels in October 2006. It is located
in the Dixon Welcome Center on the corner of River and Galena Streets. This
3-panel display tells the history of America’s
first transcontinental highway while allowing the visitor
to “open windows” and “turn dials” to
learn more. There’s also a chance to become one
of the Van Buren sisters as they took their famous ride
across the United States on an Indian motorcycle! |
Along
the gently flowing Rock River in northwestern Illinois
is
a city full of history, recreation, and amenities, that bolster
the
quality of midwestern life. Dixon has become "the jewel
of
the Sauk Valley Area" and the people of Dixon warmly
welcome
you to enjoy the simple things that make this community worth
experiencing.
